The transparent air and limpid colours present a vast horizon in this corner of the Sicilian sea that embraces six other islands, the coast of Calabria, the hills of the Sicilian coast up to the gulf of Palermo including Ustica island, together with a majestic vision of Mount Etna.

The most visible part of the island is the top of a complex volcanic structure whose peak is called “Fossa efilici”, 773.71 meters high. Upon arrival, you have the striking vision of thousands of terraces called “the lenze”, ( some going back as far as 5000 years ago), extending from the top of the mountains down to the sea coast; this indicates the level of well-being and the evolution of the natives who built a comfortable and enjoyable life style.
The strong volcanic nature of the island with its elevated exposure to wind, sun and sea linked to the ancient history of myths and legends, give this land an enchanting aspect of rough purity.
